Former SLHS Principal Butler Honored by Board of Supervisors
Butler retired from SLHS in 2012 - but recently took a temporary job leading another FCPS school.

Former South Lakes High School principal Bruce Butler will be honored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday for his service to Fairfax County.
Butler was nominated for the honor by Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins.
Butler was principal at SLHS for seven years, retiring after the 2012 school year. Overall, he worked for FCPS for 31 years as a teacher and administrator at South Lakes and Herndon Highs.
However, full-on retirement did not last long for Butler. In August, he took a job as Interim Principal at West Potomac High School for the 2013-14 school year.
West Potomac needed a principal after the death of Principal Cliff Hardison in late July. FCPS says West Potomac hopes to hire a permanent principal later in the school year.
Butler was named FCPS' First-Year Principal of the Year in 2006 and earned the Robert R. Spillane Leadership Award in 2010. During his tenure, he led the school through a large renovation and the rezoning of hundreds of students to South Lakes.
