VIRGINIA — The first big winter storm of the year brought anywhere from 2 inches to more than 11 inches of snow across Virginia, according to totals on Tuesday morning.

Numerous school districts canceled classes for the day, as the National Weather Service called for up to a foot of snow across parts of the state. Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency on Friday due to the expected threat of the winter storm.

While the snowfall has ended, the latest forecast from the National Weather Service has the frigid temperatures lingering over the region for the rest of the week, along with a chance of flurries Friday night and into Saturday.
