During the primary campaign, Kincaid ran with incumbent Sen. Chap Petersen and Commonwealth's Attorney candidate Edward Nuttall on the Fairfax Common Sense ticket. She was the only one of the trio to win on Tuesday.

Challenger Saddam Salim defeated Petersen in the 37th District race for the Virginia Senate and Nuttall lost to incumbent Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano. Both Salim and Descano were declared winners by the AP.
