Professional Burglars Targeting Asians Near Reston: Police

A series of burglaries that police first reported in December that appear to be targeted at Asians seems to be continuing well into 2019, and police report 10 more burglaries near Reston and Herndon that may be related.

The 10 new addresses are located in Vienna, McLean, Fairfax, and Great Falls in the McLean, Reston, and Fair Oaks police districts.

"After the initial burglaries were reported near the end of 2018, officers and detectives increased proactive patrols, met with community members, and continue to remain vigilant in identifying the suspects involved," reads a report from the Fairfax County Police Department. "It is believed that the crimes are committed by a group of professional individuals, mainly targeting victims of Asian or Middle Eastern descent."

Typically, burglars made entry through a rear door in the home, and the burglaries usually took place in the late afternoon and evening hours. Total losses are in excess of a million dollars, police say.

Police ask anyone with information to contact them.

  • 4800 block of Muddler Way, Fairfax
  • 12500 block of Cerromar Place, Fairfax
  • 1300 block of Earnestine Street, McLean
  • 1400 block of Woodhurst Boulevard, McLean
  • 7800 block of Loughran Road, McLean
  • 9700 block of Middleton Ridge Road, Vienna
  • 10000 block of Park Royal Drive, Great Falls
  • 1600 block of Admirals Hill Court, Vienna

The following is a list of the addresses reported last December:

  • 4800 block of Annamohr Drive, Fairfax
  • 11300 block of Andrew Lane, Fairfax
  • 11300 block of Andrew Lane, Fairfax
  • 1100 block of Mountain Hope Court, Great Falls
  • 200 block of Golden Woods Court, Great Falls
  • 1100 block of Lees Meadow Court, Great Falls
  • 1200 block of Raymond Avenue, McLean
  • 3500 block of Saint Augustin Lane, Oakton
  • 9600 block of Maymont Drive, Vienna

Police offer the following tips for local homeowners:

  • Keep all doors and windows closed and locked.
  • Secure sliding glass doors by placing a metal rod or a wooden dowel rod in the track.
  • Lock the door to an attached garage.
  • Make your residence appear occupied, even when no one is home, to help deter criminals.
  • Keep the perimeter of your home well lit.
  • Have a trusted neighbor collect mail and newspapers while you are away.
  • Keep landscaping trimmed away from entrances and walkways.
  • Organize or join a Neighborhood Watch program.
  • Get a free home security check from a Crime Prevention Officer.
  • Keep an inventory of your property.
  • Store ladders, tools and any other outside objects in a locked shed or garage.
  • Make sure the home’s address is visible for police, firemen and paramedics.
