Here are the top three stories in Reston today:

  1. A draft of the African American Historic Resources Survey Report proposes several locations to become designated as historic places, including several Fairfax County locations important to African American history. The local locations included in the report are the Louise Archer School, the Tinner Hill neighborhood, and the Clifton Primitive Baptist Church. County residents are encouraged to weigh in on the proposed sites through Friday, Mar. 24, and the county will be hosting a virtual community meeting on Monday, Mar. 6, at 6:30 p.m. (Reston Now)
  2. Fairfax County School Board at-large member Karen Keys-Gamarra has reportedly filed to run in the District 7 race to represent Reston in the Virginia House of Delegates. Keys-Gamara will be the fifth Democratic candidate to file to run for the position and will face fellow candidates during the Democratic Party Primary on Jun. 20. The representative position is currently held by Del. Ken Plum, who announced his retirement last month after serving for four decades. (Reston Patch)
  3. State Sen. Janet Howell, the current representative for a large portion of northern Fairfax County, announced that she will be retiring after serving for more than 30 years. Howell joins 16 other incumbent state legislators who will not be seeking reelection in the coming election. (Reston Now)
