Reston Hospital Center Earns High Performing Ratings: U.S. News
Reston Hospital Center was one of six HCA hospitals with high performing ratings in new rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.

RESTON, VA — Reston Hospital Center was among six HCA Virginia hospitals to be recognized among U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023 Best Hospitals report, which was released on Tuesday.
“Our care teams vigilantly strive to provide excellence to our patients, and these accolades are continued evidence that our unwavering commitment to patient care is recognized by third-party evaluators,” said Elizabeth Mikula, vice president of quality at HCA Healthcare's Capital Division, in a release. “We are proud to have our hospitals ranked among the best in the nation.”
Reston Hospital Center received high performing ratings in the following areas: Congestive Heart Failure, Hip Replacement, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement, and Stroke.

HCA's StoneSprings Hospital Center, which is located nearby in Dulles, also received a high performing rating in Congestive Heart Failure.
The four other HCA hospitals to receive high performing ratings were Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Chippeham and Johnson-Willis, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, and LewisGale-Medical Center. Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond was also ranked among the best hospitals in Virginia.

The 33rd edition of the list rates the 20 best hospitals in the country and also includes top regional hospitals and hospital rankings based on specialty care.
U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals in 15 specialties and 19 procedures and conditions, adding rankings for ovarian cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and uterine cancer surgery to its 2022 list.
The 2022-23 rankings also took into account several health equity measures for the first time, noting hospitals which provide more care to low income patients and those which have racial disparities in medical and surgical outcomes.
The rankings are meant to help patients and doctors make health care decisions, according to Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor of U.S. News.
Inova Fairfax Hospital was named the top hospital in Virginia, receiving high marks in specialties including cardiology, diabetes and gastroenterology. For obstetrics and gynecology, Inova Fairfax Hospital was ranked 10th in the nation.
University of Virginia Medical Center was ranked second in the state, and rated particularly high in orthopedics, pulmonology and ophthalmology.
The following Virginia hospitals were also ranked:

- No. 3 (tied): VCU Medical Center, Richmond
- No. 5: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke
- No. 6: Valley Health - Winchester Medical Center, Winchester
- No. 7: Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg
- No. 8 (tied): Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville
- No. 8 (tied): Inova Fairfax Oaks Hospital, Fairfax
- No. 10 (tied): Inova Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria
- No. 10 (tied): Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg
- No. 12 (tied): Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Richmond
- No. 12 (tied): Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington
- No. 12 (tied): Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach
- No. 15: Chippenham Hospital, Richmond
- No. 16: Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake
- No. 17: Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Mechanicsville
The rankings excluded all hospital visits in March 2020 as well as visits in which a patient was diagnosed with COVID-19. Visits to any hospital were excluded if they occurred during a month of 2020 in which the hospital’s COVID-19 rate exceeded the national average.

Of the hospitals evaluated, 164 earned top 50 rankings in at least one of the specialty care categories, and nearly 500 were recognized as Best Regional Hospitals, based on their strong performance in multiple areas of care.
In addition to state, regional and specialty rankings, U.S. News also announced the 20 hospitals that made it to this year’s Honor Roll, which recognizes the top hospitals nationwide that deliver exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, claimed the top ranking on the Honor Roll for the seventh consecutive year. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles is ranked second, and NYU Langone Hospitals came in thurd.
Among notable specialties, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is the top-ranked hospital for cancer, the Cleveland Clinic is No. 1 in cardiology and heart surgery and NYU Langone Hospitals is the top hospital in neurology and neurosurgery.
