Reston Hospital Center Earns 'A' Grade In National Safety Guide

RESTON, VA — Reston Hospital Center was one of nine HCA Virginia Health System hospitals to receive and "A" in the Fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, according to a release.

The Leapfrog Group awards letter grades to general hospitals nationwide on their performance for preventing medical errors, injuries, infections, accidents, and other harm to their patients.

“There is no more important part of our job than vigilantly protecting patient safety,” said Elizabeth Mikula, HCA Healthcare Capital Division vice president of quality, in a release. “We value the outside review of our patient safety programs to ensure we are providing world-class care to our patients and their families.”

The other eight HCA Virginia hospitals earning an "A" grade from Leapfrog are:

  • Henrico Doctors' Hospital - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • Parham Doctors' Hospital - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • Retreat Doctors' Hospital - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • LewisGale Hospital - Montgomery - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • LewisGale Hospital - Pulaski - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • LewisGale Medical Center - 2022 Fall Grade: A
  • John Randolph Medical Center - 2022 Fall Grade: A

The Leapfrog Group issues its safety grade twice a year, in the spring and fall. The peer-reviewed grading system is the only one that measure hospital safety across the country.

Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of The Leapfrog Group, called an "A" Safety Grade a tremendous achievement for a hospital.

“I thank the leadership and workforce of HCA Virginia for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times," she said, in a release.
