Snow, Freezing Rain Prompt Winter Weather Advisory In NoVA
Snow, sleet and freezing rain are all possible in Northern VA. A winter weather advisory has been issued. See timing for the incoming storm.

VIRGINIA — While Northern Virginia will see sunny skies with a high temperature near 50 on Friday, it won't last. Winter will return over the weekend, bringing sub-freezing weather and a mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet to the region.
On Friday, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for most of central and Northern Virginia, including parts of Loudoun and Prince William counties. The advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch, according to the NWS.

“Precipitation is expected to overspread the area Saturday morning,” according to the weather service. “Precipitation likely starts as snow before transitioning to sleet and eventually freezing rain through midday. Precipitation will transition to rain late Saturday evening as temperatures warm.”
Sunny skies return on Sunday and Monday, but NWS expects freezing rain, snow and sleet to return through midweek.

Here is the National Weather Service's seven-day forecast for the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area:
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
- Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.
- Saturday: A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 1pm, then freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet. High near 33. Light southeast wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Saturday Night: Rain likely, possibly mixed with sleet, becoming all rain after 7pm. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
- Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
- Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
- Monday Night: A chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
- Tuesday: Snow. High near 37. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
- Tuesday Night: Snow before 1am, then a chance of rain, snow, and freezing rain. Low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
- Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
- Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
- Thursday: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
