Summer Heat To Scorch VA This Week: When It Could Hit 90 Degrees
Heat and humidity are on the way across Virginia, making it feel like summer later this week. Here's when highs could top 90 degrees.
VIRGINIA — After a May that ended soggy and cool, this week will bring summer-like temperatures with highs hitting 90 degrees in Washington, D.C., and parts of Northern Virginia.
Temperatures are forecast to soar from the low 60s overnight this past weekend to near 90 degrees by Thursday. Showers will also return for the weekend.
The National Weather Service is calling for the first 90-degree day of the season to culminate a steady warmup after a hazy Tuesday in the low to mid-80s.

The slow climb to summer begins on Monday with sunny skies and a high temperature of 76 degrees. After another cool night, highs will stretch to 84 degrees on Tuesday, 86 on Wednesday and 91 degrees on Thursday with increasing humidity and hazy skies.
Fueling some of that haze will be smoke from Canadian wildfires moving into the Mid-Atlantic states.

"It feels unmistakably like summer Wednesday through Friday," The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang said. "Warm weather hangs around for the weekend, with highs near 90 Saturday and 80 to 85 Sunday. Saturday offers a chance of showers and storms as a cool front comes through. Sunday has a better chance to stay dry and is probably less humid after morning lows in the 60s."

Despite a dog-days-of-summer feel to the midweek, the NWS is forecasting a chance of showers beginning on Friday afternoon and continuing through the weekend, continue this weekend, with showers likely both Saturday and Sunday.
The high temperature on Thursday will be 91 degrees in Washington, D.C., with a high near 90 degrees on Friday.
