VA, DC Weather: Thunderstorms, Flooding In Weekend Forecast
Thursday's scattered showers will lead to rounds of rain and thunderstorms this weekend, forecasters said. Here's the latest VA timeline.
VIRGINIA — Scattered rain showers, drizzle and fog across the District and Northern Virginia Thursday will transition to thunderstorms at times Friday through the start of next week, forecasters said. A hazardous weather outlook was issued Thursday for much of the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region by the National Weather Service.
Thursday afternoon brought cloudy skies and scattered showers with temperatures hovering in the upper 60s, the National Weather Service said. Highs will climb into the mid- to upper-80s Saturday into next week.
But Thursday’s scattered showers will give way to rounds of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms Friday through Monday, forecasters added, and continuing through Wednesday.

The hazardous outlook includes the District of Columbia, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park. It is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.
"Isolated storms with gusty winds are possible over the Tidal Potomac River near Smith Point as well as the Maryland Chesapeake Bay south of Drum Point this evening. A waterspout is also possible across this area," the National Weather Service said. "Isolated instances of flooding are possible Friday into Friday night, especially around the I-95 corridor. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon and evening."

"An unsettled pattern more typical of summer returns over the next several days with daily shower and thunderstorm chances. It won't rain the whole time, but there's at least a chance of rain at some point nearly every day," said the National Weather Service office for Baltimore-Washington, D.C. "Temperatures will remain below normal today with highs in the 60s to mid 70s for most."
Poor beach weather is from southern Georgia north through Long Island due to the building surf, said AccuWeather. In much of the mid-Atlantic, areas of rain will break out, expand northward and mitigate temperatures even further, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek said. In portions of the Delmarva Peninsula and the Carolinas, minor coastal flooding at times of high tide along with minor beach erosion could occur.
