Burglary Reported at Vienna Home While Residents Vacationing
A look at recent crime in the Town of Vienna, courtesy of weekly crime report from police.

VIENNA, VA -- A family returned home from vacation Tuesday to find that someone had broken into their home, according to the Vienna Police Department.
The burglary in the 100 Block Ayr Hill Avenue, NW took place between July 2 at 7 a.m. and July 5 at 10:30 p.m., according to police.
A resident returned home from a vacation to find the rear door to their residence open. The rear door had been forced open and the residence had been rummaged through. Several personal items and US currency were stolen.

INCIDENTS
Open Door Window 16-005546 Blair Court, SW June 30 1:31 p.m. Officers responded to the listed residence for an alarm. When they got to the residence they found the front door was unlocked. Officers searched the residence and found nothing suspicious.
Property Lost 16-005550 Vienna Town Hall 127 Center Street, S June 30 4:10 p.m. A citizen reported their daughter lost a cell phone at Vienna Town Hall.
Mental Case 16-005551 Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE June 30 4:16 p.m. A co-worker called stating a female subject was experiencing a mental health situation. When officers arrived they assisted the female subject in getting mental health services.
Property Found 16-005555 Giant Food Store 359 Maple Avenue, East June 30 7:08 p.m. A citizen called to report they found drug paraphernalia in the bushes near the Giant Food Store. The paraphernalia was collected and marked for destruction.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-005573 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 1 12:25 a.m. Officers were patrolling the area of the listed address and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a hotel room. Officers spoke with the occupants of the room and while speaking to them observed a measureable amount of marijuana on a table. A male occupant of the room claimed the suspected marijuana to be his. The 50 year old male subject from Islip Terrace, New York was charged with possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons and released on his signature.
Vehicle Tampering 16-005578 1000 Block Echols Street, SE July 1 11:17 a.m. A resident called to report their unsecured vehicle had been rummaged through. Nothing was taken.
Assault 16-005579 Michaels Store 311 Maple Avenue, East July 1 11:47 a.m. A citizen called to report they were assaulted. A female subject stated she was walking near the listed store and was assaulted by a male subject. Ofc Sterling spoke with both parties and determined no assault occurred.
Animal Case 16-005594 100 Block Battle Street, SE July 1 5:41 p.m. A citizen called to report there were two dogs at large. When Ofc. Hylinski arrived he found both dogs and observed neither had a collar. Both dogs were transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Burglary 16-005607 Horner’s Corner Dog Groomer 420 Maple Avenue, East July 2 9:10 a.m. Officers responded to the listed business for a broken glass front door. When they arrived they found the front door glass broken and the business rummaged through. The owner of the business was able to determine a sum of US currency was stolen.
Suspicious Event 16-005631 400 Block Maple Avenue, East July 3 9:44 a.m. A female subject called to report a verbal argument with a male subject. Sgt. Sheeran arrived and met with the female subject who told him she was in a verbal argument with a male subject she didn’t know. Sgt. Sheeran was able to make contact with the male subject who gave a different story than the female subject. Sgt. Sheeran determined no crime took place and both subjects left the area.
Mental Case 16-005643 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 3 5:50 p.m. Officers responded to the listed area for a male subject experiencing a mental health emergency. The male subject was transported to the hospital by Fairfax County EMS.
Animal Case 16-005644 Ware Street and Walker Street, SW July 3 6:28 p.m. A citizen called to report an at large dog. MPO Lyons located the dog with a Town of Vienna dog tag; however, the tag was not up to date. The dog was transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-005652 100 Block Patrick Street, SE July 3 11:49 p.m. Officers responded to the listed area for a 911 hang-up. They searched the area and were unable to find the caller. A short time later a male subject approached MPO Shaw and identified himself as the caller. PFC Tremont arrived to assist MPO Shaw and in doing so observed possible signs of impairment as the male subject talked. Officers escorted the male subject to his residence where he refused to remain. The 44 year of male subject from Patrick Street, Vienna was arrested for drunk in public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Animal Case 16-005671 Blackstone Terrace and Lawyers Road, NW July 4 10:18 p.m. An injured deer was reported at the listed intersection. Ofc. Reedy arrived and determined the deer had suffered significant injuries. The deer was euthanized.
Animal Case 16-005683 300 Block Owaissa Road, SE July 5 9:15 a.m. ACO Barker responded to the listed area for a dog choking or possibly not breathing. When he arrived the dog had regained consciousness, but was unable to move. ACO Barker and Fairfax County Fire assisted the homeowner in getting the dog to the animal shelter. On July 6th ACO Barker received an update the dog was still being observed with an unknown prognosis.
Petit Larceny 16-005688 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 5 10:39 a.m. A citizen called to report they had some prescription drugs stolen from their hotel room.
Open Door Window 16-005689 100 Block Patrick Street, SW July 5 11:04 a.m. While on patrol Ofc. Slebonick was waved down by a citizen. They told him the residence next store had an open back door. Officers searched the residence and found nothing suspicious.
Vehicle Tampering 16-005691 Moorefield Hill Road, SW July 4 at 3:30 p.m. and July 5 at 9:00 a.m. A resident called to report their vehicle had been rummaged through. Their vehicle was left unsecured. Nothing was taken.
Grand Larceny 16-005693 Moorefield Hill Court, SW Between July 4 at 5:00 p.m. and July 5 at 12:00 p.m. A resident called to report their vehicle had been rummaged through. The resident stated the vehicle was locked, but no signs of forced entry were found. Two handguns were stolen from the vehicle.
Petit Larceny 16-005708 Ace Massage 301 Block Maple Avenue, West July 5 8:29 p.m. An employee of the listed business called to report a male subject came in to the business and took US currency from the front counter.
Property Found 16-005727 Moorefield Hill Place, SW July 6 7:34 a.m. A citizen found two unattended backpacks. Inside one of the unattended backpacks was one of the handguns stolen from the grand larceny case #2016-5693.
Animal Case - Quarantine 16-005728 Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE July 6 9:19 a.m. A female technician at the Hope Center was bit on the face by a cat. The technician suffered minor injuries. The cat was placed in to 10 day quarantine.
Property Lost 16-005730 Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South July 6 9:35 a.m. A citizen came to the station to report they had lost several items to include a key chain and gift cards.
Petit Larceny 16-005742 Sanoey Circle, SE July 6 3:06 p.m. A resident called to report their trash transportation tote was stolen.
Suspicious Event 16-005761 300 Block Park Street, SE July 6 11:39 p.m. A resident called to report someone had left a paper bag of personal items on their driveway. Some of the items belonged to the resident. The resident had no idea how those items could have ended up in the paper bag. The resident stated they would destroy the items and contact Vienna Police Department with any further issues.
Open Door Window 16-005779 Robeks 136 Maple Avenue, West July 7 9:53 p.m. Officers responded to an open door at the listed business. Nothing suspicious was found.
