Pokemon Go in Vienna: Driver Stopped in the Middle of the Road Playing Popular Game

Police issued citations to two drivers in Vienna in the past 24 hours for erratic driving while playing Pokemon Go.

VIENNA, VA -- Two drivers were cited for erratic driving while playing "Pokemon Go" in the past 24 hours in Vienna, police said Friday.

Police stopped a driver Thursday night at 9:55 p.m., who they said was driving erratically in the 100 block of Center Street South in Vienna. The driver told the officer he and others in the car were playing Pokemon Go. The officer issued a summons to the driver.

A few hours later, early Friday at 2:41 a.m., Officer Bult observed another vehicle, this time stopped in the middle of the 100 block of Maple Avenue West. The occupants of the car told the officer they were playing Pokemon Go. The officer issued a summons to the driver.

INCIDENTS

Burglary 16-005784 600 Block Valley Drive, SE July 7 1:14 p.m.: A resident called to report a burglary. The resident told arriving officers they watched a male subject go in to a residence and take out “something heavy.” The resident confronted the male subject who refused to speak with them and then fled the scene.

Property Found 16-005793 200 Block Maple Avenue, East July 7 9:54 p.m.: A citizen turned in a wallet they found.

Arrest – ABC Violation 16-005833 500 Block Maple Avenue, West July 8 10:27 p.m.: While on patrol MPO Smith observed a vehicle make a traffic infraction. When MPO Smith spoke with the driver of the vehicle he observed an alcoholic beverage on the floorboard of the front passenger seat. All of the occupants of the vehicle were under the age of 21 years. A passenger of the vehicle attempted to deceive officers with a fictitious operator’s license. The 18 year old male driver of Madrigal Way, Vienna, was charged with possession of alcohol underage. He was issued a summons and released on his signature. A passenger of the vehicle, 18 year old male subject of Fairview Drive, Fairfax was charged with possession of alcohol underage and possession of a fictitious operator’s license. He was issued a summons and released on his signature.

Grand Larceny 16-005835 200 Block Windover Avenue, NW July 8 11:03 p.m.: A resident called to report their son’s bicycle had been stolen while visiting a friend’s house.

Domestic Dispute 16-005840 Mill Street, NE July 8 11:42 p.m.: Officers responded to the listed area for a domestic dispute between a male and female subject. When they arrived they spoke with both subjects who stated no physical altercation took place. Both subjects agreed to go their separate ways and left the area.

Assault 16-005860 400 Block Yeonas Drive, SW July 9 5:14 p.m.: A citizen reported they had been assaulted. The female subject stated she went to a residence in an attempt to see a relative. She said when she arrived she attempted to knock on the front door when two male subjects came around from the side and assaulted her. Officers made contact with the two male subjects and an independent witness who stated the female subject wasn’t assaulted, she was impaired and injured herself. All parties involved were explained the process of obtaining warrants.

Vandalism 16-005878 300 Block Charles Street, SE July 9 11:57 p.m.: A resident called to report their residence and vehicle had been vandalized. Ofc. Bulti arrived and found the residents house and vehicle had been hit by doughnuts.

Suspicious Event 16-005909 Michael’s Store 311 Maple Avenue, East July 10 9:09 p.m.: A female citizen wanted to report she believed she was being followed while out shopping. She stated an older male subject approached her asking her a bunch of odd questions. She stated the male subject then waited outside of the store waiting for her to leave. The incident was reported after the fact and officers were unable to speak with the older male subject.

Petit Larceny 16-005936 Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South July 11 9:10 a.m.: A citizen came to report a larceny. The female citizen said US currency and prescription medication were stolen out of her purse. She wasn’t sure where the actual larceny took place.

Civil Dispute 16-005944 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 11 10:13 a.m.: A citizen called to report they were unhappy with the way they were being treated by the hotel management. MPO Vazquez assisted all parties involved and the citizen left the hotel without further incident.

Service 16-005973 PNC Bank 353 Maple Avenue, East July 12 12:10 p.m.: A bank employee called stating they felt an elderly female subject was being scammed. Det Leroux met with the subject and determined if there was a crime it would have occurred in Fairfax County’s jurisdiction. The subject was referred to Fairfax County Police Department.

Trespassing 16-005988 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East July 12 5:47 p.m.: An employee of the listed business called to report a female subject was trespassing. The employee advised the female subject had been previously trespassed by store management. The female subject was formally trespassed in MPO Vazquez presence and left the store.

Shoplifting 16-005989 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East July 12 8:28 p.m.: Officers responded to the listed business for a female subject who shoplifted alcoholic beverages. MPO Nelson made contact with the female subject who admitted to shoplifting the alcoholic beverages. The female subject agreed to pay for the alcoholic beverages. The store management didn’t wish to pursue the matter criminally at this time.

Service 16-005991 Park Street, SE July 12 9:51 p.m. Ofc. Sterling assisted a resident in a domestic matter.

Mental Case 16-005992 Park Street, SE July 12 10:27 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a possibly armed male subject experiencing a mental health emergency. When officers arrived they made contact with the male subject and determined he was not presently armed. The male subject agreed to seek mental health care and was transported to the Merrifield Center.

Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-006009 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 13 10:05 a.m.: A citizen called to report a possibly intoxicated male subject in the listed area. Ofc. Slebonick arrived and spoke with the male subject. As he spoke to the male subject he observed signs of possible impairment. The 53 year old male subject from Main Street, Fairfax was arrested for drunk in public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Animal Case 16-006022 100 Block Patrick Street, SE July 13 2:16 a.m. ACO Barker got a citizen complaint a female subject was abusing her dog. ACO Barker met with the female subject and determined she was not abusing her dog. ACO Barker found the dog to be well cared for.

Service 16-006025 Casmar Street, SE July 13 3:53 p.m. Ofc. Slebonick assisted a resident in a domestic matter.

Animal Case 16-006043 600 Block Blackstone Terrace, NW July 14 8:11 a.m. A citizen found a lost dog. ACO Barker was able to determine who the owners of the dog were; however, the owners were out of town. ACO Barker found a caretaker for the dog until the owners return.

Animal Case - Quarantine 16-006059 Caboose Brewery 520 Mill Street, SE July 14 2:04 p.m. A citizen called to state they had been bitten by a dog on their leg. The male subject did not receive any significant injuries. The dog was place under quarantine for 10 days.

Assist Fire EMS 16-006072 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 14 8:27 p.m. Hotel management called to report a female subject was suffering from a medical emergency. Fairfax County Fire & EMS transported the subject to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
