Vienna Man Charged For Leaving Scene Of Fatal Crash: FCPD
Fairfax County police charged a Vienna man with felony hit and run for leaving the scene of a fatal crash in Merrifield, authorities say.

MERRIFIELD, VA — Fairfax County police have a charged a 28-year-old Vienna man with felony hit-and-run in connection to the Dec. 29 fatal pedestrian-involved crash on Route 29 in Merrifield, according to authorities.
Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that 53-year-old Michelle Wheeler of an undetermined address standing in the left lane of eastbound Route 29 just before Braxton Wood Court when she was struck by a 2020 Nissan Rouge, according to the incident report.
After the initial impact, Wheeler was struck a second time by a 2024 Toyota Camry, driven by William Wang of Vienna, according to police. Wang then left the scene of the crash.

"Wheeler was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased," according to the incident report. "The driver of the Nissan Rogue was uninjured and remained on scene."

On Tuesday, Wang turned himself in at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with felony hit and run in connection to the crash, according to police. He was later released on a $2,000 bond.
Wang is scheduled to be arraigned in Fairfax County General District Court at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 2 p.m. on March 30, according to court documents.
Failing to stop for a fatal accident is a Class 5 felony. If Wang is found guilty on this charge, he faces a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a fine up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.
