Vienna Police's Zero Cancer Grow-and-Give Supports Prostate Cancer Research
The returning Grow-and-Give campaign is a tribute to a Vienna police officer's father who died of prostate cancer.

VIENNA, VA — The Vienna Police Department is seeking support for its Zero Cancer Grow-and-Give fundraising campaign to stand against prostate cancer. The cause is personal for Vienna Police's public information officer Juan Vazquez, whose father died from prostate cancer.
This is the fifth year for Zero Cancer Grow-and-Give at the Vienna Police Department. Throughout November, Police Chief Jim Morris suspended the no-beard rule for police officers, allowing them to support the "No Shave November" cause to raise awareness and support research for prostate cancer.
"Cancer affects all of us, and this particular campaign hits close to home as the Vienna Police Department’s public information officer, Juan Vazquez, lost his father to prostate cancer some years ago," Morris said. "It means a lot to him that we participate every year and while another win for the department would be fantastic, our main goal is to raise awareness and keep everyone healthy."

Nearly 250,000 men in the U.S. are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually, but early detection can make treatment more effective. The Zero Prostate Cancer organization raises awareness for prostate cancer, funds research to find a cure, provides educational materials to men and their families and offers screenings to men unable to afford them.
Last year, Vienna Police raised more than $3,400, making it the highest fundraising total nationwide in the first responder category. The police department's goal is to meet or surpass that total. Vienna Police's Grow-and-Give team can be supported online.
