What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2025 In Vienna

The Thanksgiving holiday will prompt closures around Vienna, and some will continue into Friday.

VIENNA, VA — Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, Nov. 27 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.

Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 28 for Black Friday, making it a four-day weekend.

After you finish your Thanksgiving feasts, head to the Vienna Community Center for the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild Art & Craft Show from Nov. 28 to 30. The event features over 50 artists and crafters. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Meadowlark's Winter Walk of Lights will be open on Thanksgiving and other holidays through Jan. 4. This winter wonderland offers a walking path filled with holiday lights.

On Monday, Dec. 1, head to historic Church Street for the Church Street Holiday Stroll from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will include Santa arriving by fire engine, a tree lighting led by Mayor Linda Colbert, live holiday music by local performers, a gingerbread ornament decorating challenge and shopping at Church street businesses. Visitors are also encouraged to stop by the Freeman Store and Museum, Little Library, Caboose, Train Station, Knights of Columbus (formerly First Baptist Church) and Vienna Presbyterian's Old Chapel.

Here are all the openings and closings to know around Vienna for Thanksgiving on Nov. 27 and Black Friday on Nov. 28.

Town of Vienna government offices: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 27 and 28.

Fairfax County Public Schools: FCPS schools and offices are closed Nov. 26 to 28.

Community centers: The Vienna Community Center will be closed on Nov. 27 and open on Nov. 28 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services community centers will be closed Nov. 27 to 30. Normal operations will resume on Dec. 1.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Circuit Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and remain closed Nov. 27 and 28.

DMV: Virginia DMV locations will be closed Nov. 27 to 29. Some services are online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Fairfax Connector: Sunday service will run on Nov. 27. The only routes that operate on Sundays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. A Saturday schedule will run on Nov. 28. The routes that operate on Saturdays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 610, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 672, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Additional routes operating on a weekday schedule on Nov. 28 are 306, 660 and 662. The Fairfax Connector Transit Stores and the Customer Service Call Center are closed on Nov. 27 and open on Nov. 28.

Library: Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Nov. 27 and 28.

Metro: On Nov. 27, Metrorail will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight on a special reduced holiday service schedule at all stations. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. All MetroAccess subscription trips will be canceled, but customers can make a separate reservation to travel on the holiday.

Post offices: Closed on Nov. 27.

Recreation centers: Rec centers are open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 27 and open regular hours on Nov. 28.

Trash and recycling: In the Town of Vienna, there will be no waste collections on Nov. 27. Thursday and Friday waste and recycling collections will happen on Nov. 28, but there will be no bulk, brush or yard waste collection. Fairfax County collection customers will have no changes in service during Thanksgiving week. Private collection customers should look for schedule changes from their hauler. The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are closed on Nov. 27 and open on Nov. 28.

Virginia ABC: Virginia ABC stores will be closed on Nov. 27 and reopen for regular service on Nov. 28. Stores will open early at 8 a.m. on Nov. 28 and close at regular times.
