Alexandria Woman, 79, Dies in Crash on Interstate 81: Police
A tractor-trailer driver is charged for making an improper lane change, causing Camry to spin out of control, according to police.

An Alexandria woman died Sunday in a car crash on Interstate 81 in Virginia's Pulaski County, Virginia State Police announced Monday night.
Hazel I. Mumpower, 79, of Alexandria, was transported to a nearby hospital Sunday afternoon, where she later died, police reported. She was not wearing a seatbelt when she was ejected from a vehicle as it spun across the interstate after the car was hit by a tractor-trailer, police said.
The crash occurred Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12:58 p.m., on Interstate 81 approximately 100 feet south of Exit 94B.

Mumpower was a passenger in the rear seat of the car being driven by her brother, Cecil Goodman, 80, of Manassas, police said. Goodman was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A second passenger in the Camry, a 74-year-old female, identified by PCPatriot.com as Bonnie Goodman, Cecil Goodman's wife, was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
A tractor-trailer and a 2010 Toyota Camry were traveling north on Interstate 81 when the tractor-trailer changed lanes from the left to the right and struck the Camry, which was in the right northbound travel lane, according to police. The impact caused the Camry to spin out of control, run off the left side of the road and strike the guardrail. The Camry then spun around back into the northbound lanes and ran off the right side of I-81, where it finally came to rest against the guardrail.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Alan L. Jordan, 55, of Brookhaven, Penn., was not injured in the crash, police said. He was wearing a seat belt. Jordan was charged with making an improper lane change. The crash remains under investigation.
