Area Blockbuster Stores Closing
The Annandale and Kingstowne locations—the only ones remaining close to Alexandria—are both closing.

The two closest Blockbuster video locations to Alexandria’s West End are closing.
Blockbuster announced earlier this year it is closing 300 of its 800 locations in the coming weeks.
Those locations include the Blockbuster stores at 7448 Little River Turnpike in Annandale and at Kingstowne Center.

The move follows 500 store closings last year, which included Alexandria’s last two Blockbuster stores—the Blockbuster at Bradlee Shopping Center (that storefront is still vacant) and the Blockbuster on Beauregard St. (a Noodles & Co. is occupying part of that space now).
Parent company Dish Network said 3,000 employees will lose their jobs in the process.

The stores targeted reportedly include underperforming sites, as well as locations where leases are set to expire.
With these closures, the closest Blockbuster store to Alexandria will be in Lake Ridge.
