Cherry Blossom Custard Available at The Dairy Godmother in Del Ray
Owner Liz Davis says to expect the return of Cicada Crunch frozen custard in May.

The Dairy Godmother in Del Ray is greeting the expected peak of cherry blossom season in the DC area with the return of cherry blossom-flavored frozen custard available Friday and Saturday.
“It’s just a fun thing to do,” said owner Liz Davis. “We do it every year to welcome the blossoms. It really is the exact color.”
Davis said she uses a blush of Bordeaux cherries in vanilla custard to create the flavor.

The Dairy Godmother, located 2310 Mount Vernon Ave. in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, is just a 15-minute drive from the Tidal Basin. It’s also a 20-minute walk from Braddock Road Metro Station.

Davis has more spring-themed flavors in the works. She said customers can expect the return of a Cicada Crunch custard—named after that are preparing to emerge from the ground—sometime in May.
Cicada Crunch does not actually include any insects, she said.
