Meetings in Alexandria and Arlington are scheduled next week to keep the public informed.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in partnership with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), will host public information meetings next week for the I-395 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project. These meetings will be informational events, with interview opportunities with VDOT officials involved with the I-395 Express Lanes Northern Extension project.

A meeting is scheduled in Alexandria next Wednesday, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Francis C. Hammond Middle School, 4646 Seminary Road.

The I-395 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project will expand and convert the two existing reversible High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on I-395 to three managed High Occupancy Toll (HOT) or Express Lanes for eight miles along I-395 from north of Edsall Road to the vicinity of Eads Street near the Pentagon.

The project will provide improved connections between the proposed I-395 Express Lanes and Eads Street. Improvements will be built largely within VDOT’s right of way. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2017 and be completed in summer 2019. A transit and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) study also will be conducted to identify projects to be funded through an annual transit payment.
