Police Investigate Shooting Early Sunday in Bailey's Crossroads Area

Intruder shot resident after wrestling gun away from victim, according to Fairfax County Police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Police responded early Sunday to a report of a man shouting and knocking on doors in the hallway of an apartment complex in the 3500 block of S. George Mason Drive (see map below) in the Bailey's Crossroads area off of Leesburg Pike.

Fairfax County Police were called at 1:28 a.m. Sunday and found a 27-year-old man with an apparent injury to the mid-body and transported him to the George Washington University Hospital. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, police said.

Initial investigation determined the victim was home and awoke to another man inside his apartment, according to police. The victim, who had a gun, confronted the suspect with it, police said. A struggle took place between the two men, during which time the suspect appears to have gained control of the weapon; the gun was discharged during the struggle and struck the victim twice, police said. The victim was transported to the George Washington University Hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening and he is currently in stable condition, police said.

The suspect was described as white, about 6 feet tall, with blue eyes, a prominent nose and wore dark-colored clothing, according to police.

Major Crimes and Crime Scene detectives responded to the scene. Detectives have collected the firearm and do not believe there is any threat to public safety. The investigation remains active.
