West End Alexandria Assault Reclassified As Homicide

Police are seeking more information about an Alexandria assault declared a homicide after a medical examiner's review.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An assault in West End Alexandria that led to the victim's death months later has been reclassified as a homicide.

Alexandria Police say the assault happened on Nov. 28, 2022 in the 5400 block of N. Morgan Street. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries and died on Jan. 2.

He was identified as Maurio Bailey, 38. According to his obituary, Bailey was an Alexandria native who had a wife and two sons.

The medical examiner recently determined the cause of death was tied to physical injuries.
