Alexandria is under a winter storm watch Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service. If you’re in need of a new shovel, these stores have them:
- Home Depot, 400 S. Pickett St.
- Old Town Hardware, 809 S. Washington St.
- Lowe's, 6750 Richmond Highway

Save Your Back while Shoveling Snow
If you have a history of heart trouble or back problems, you may want to pay a neighbor’s teenager to shovel for you. Here are some additional snow shoveling safety tips from the National Safety Council:

- Pace yourself. Shoveling snow is a workout, so don’t overdo it by lifting too much snow at once.
- Shove-l the snow. Push the snow out of the way when you can, instead of lifting it up and throwing it.
- If you do have to lift it up, make sure you’re lifting with your legs, not with your back.
- Wear waterproof clothes, especially waterproof and boots, and wear clothes to keep you warm.
