The GoFundMe, which was set up on Thursday by Eliza Velasquez, had a goal of $7,000. On Friday morning, the fundraiser had already exceeded its goal.

The funds will be used to support medical care and recovery for Teddy, the miniature poodle who was beaten with a metal pole.

The Prince William County Police Department said someone broke into an apartment in the Misty Ridge complex around 12 p.m. on Wednesday.

A resident was at the front door and said they saw the suspect inside the apartment. The suspect then ran out the apartment's sliding back door, according to the police report.

The residents found Teddy was injured during the burglary. Police said there was no sign of forced entry into the apartment and a bag was reported missing.

"Beds and furniture were pushed to try his best to harm my pets. My cat Jade was fortunate to get away and protect herself, but my Teddy was not," Velasquez wrote in the GoFundMe. "Teddy was forcefully hit on his right side of his eye and head with a metal pole, causing his eye to bleed out and extreme bruising on the head."

Anyone with more information about the burglary can contact the police department's tipline at 703-792-7000. Tips can also be submitted online.

Anyone interested in supporting Teddy's medical care and recovery can donate through GoFundMe. As of 3 p.m. on Friday, more than 200 donors combined to raise $7,861 for Teddy's care.
