Dale City Lightning Track Club Triumphs at the AAU National Indoor Championship

Dale City "Lightning" Track Club (DCTC) took home 21 National All American rankings and 2 National rankings at the AAU Indoor Championship.

Dale City “Lightning” Track Club (DCTC) took home 21 National All American rankings for various individual events, along with an additional two National rankings for their 13/14 year old boys and girls 4 x 200 meter relay teams at the 2017 AAU Indoor National Championship in Landover, Maryland this past weekend.

Forty-nine DCTC athletes participated along with over 1700 other athletes from across the country in track and field events. This is DCTC’s third season competing in the indoor track programs at a national level.

Coach Monte Evans credits part of DCTC’s success at the AAU Indoor National Championship to the ability of their athletes to train year-round.

“As coaches, we realized we were good locally, but we wanted to get better nationally. To do that we needed to train year-round,” said Evans.

Competitive Edge Athletic Performance Center opened a year ago and became the official training facility for the DCTC. Competitive Edge performance trainers work with DCTC athletes to enhance speed, build strength, increase endurance, as well as improve flexibility and coordination.

Their hard work paid off this past weekend in 23 national rankings for DCTC. The MVP? Bryan Ahouman, who medaled in all four of his events. He took home first place in the long jump, third place in the triple jump, as well as top-8 honors in the 60 and 200 Meter dashes.

The DCTC was established in 2010 as a track and field running club for boys and girls. DCTC is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission to offer youth a positive environment that is fun, competitive and social, as well as informative about the sport of track and field.

DCTC coaches and staff seek to improve athletes’ leadership skills, enhance their athletic ability, combat juvenile delinquency, encourage greater participation in school sports programs and develop character in youth that will foster necessary life skills.
