Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic Offered At Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Fall is typically the recommended time for an annual flu vaccination, and there will be one option this weekend at Woodbridge's hospital.

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center will host a free drive-thru flu shot clinic from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, while supplies last. The vaccinations are available to adults and will be first come, first served. Appointments are not needed to visit the clinic.

The clinic will be in the hospital's main parking lot at 2300 Optiz Blvd., Woodbridge, VA.

"Having an annual flu shot is one of the most important steps in preventing you and your loved ones from getting the flu," said Jeff Joyner, president at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. "It's recommended that people get the flu vaccine by the end of October and Sentara is working to make it as easy and convenient as possible for people in the community to get vaccinated."

The flu vaccine is recommended annually to reduce illnesses, medical visits or hospitalizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People at higher risk for complications from the flu are adults 65 and older, pregnant women, young children, and people with certain chronic health conditions.

Sentara, a health system with other Virginia locations and one in North Carolina, will hold 17 drive-thru flu clinics this year in Hampton Roads, Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, South Boston, northeast North Carolina, and in Northern Virginia. The health system estimates it can provide 5,220 vaccines collectively.
