Local Heroes: Santa's Helpers Make The Holidays Brighter In Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, VA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

What does the local hero do?

For many years, they have gone above and beyond and have bought so many toys to give to Toys for Tots. They hold events to help get toy donations. They go to local stores and pay off people's layaways. They now are an official Inc. and are able to do more events. They now have 2 events set up at Walmarts and a possible Toys for Tots Tater Tot event and trying to get a breakfast with Santa set up all to get toy donations to help make children's Christmas dreams come true. They shop year round to gather toys and store them until the big drop off that Toys For Tots does. These people are very caring and loving and giving; selfless people. Two of the 4 people in this INC. have been doing this for as long as I can remember.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

For going above and beyond to make sure smiles are on children's faces on Christmas morning. There's no better present than seeing a smile on a child's face or to see them filled with excitement because Santa brought them exactly what they wanted. They shop year round, weekly, looking for sales and deals and buying toys to make dreams come true. They try to do many events to raise money and to get toy donations. They go to local stores and pay off layaways for parents. They help put a smile and relief in parents' lives that can't afford to provide for their children at Christmas. They are truly the most giving people I know.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

They are your everyday people. They work daily and take their hard earned money to buy toys to put smiles on children's faces. They aren't ever looking for recognition just the gift of knowing what they do changes lives of children and families.
