VIRGINIA — After days of clearing roads and sidewalks from Monday's winter storm in Northern Virginia, another round of snow may be on the way.

The National Weather Service says there is a slight threat of a winter storm Friday into Saturday, which could bring travel disruptions. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the I-95 corridor in Northern Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia and central Maryland.

AccuWeather expects the heaviest snow from the winter storm to track more south than Monday's storm. A map from AccuWeather shows an expected 1 to 3 inches of snow in northern parts of Virginia. Parts of southwestern Virginia and West Virginia are more likely to see 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher 6 inches in the mountains. Near and north of D.C., snow could be more intermittent due to a weak storm approaching from the Midwest.

"While a general 1 to perhaps 3 inches of snow is forecast, there can be pockets where a coating or a dusting of snow could be all that falls from the storm, especially along the upper mid-Atlantic coast," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang doesn't expect the storm to produce the same amount as Monday's storm, which had totals between 5 and 11 inches around Northern Virginia. Different models used by the forecasters show as little as 0.1 inches to 1 or 2 inches Friday into Saturday in the DC region. The Capital Weather Gang says there is no chance of snow above 3 inches after previous modeling showed a small chance of 3 inches.

"A dusting to two inches is the most likely forecast right now," the Capital Weather Gang's forecast said. "Again, it’s also possible that the area is shut out from snow if the storm slides by far enough to the south. Unless there’s a big shift to the north in the storm track, the ceiling for snowfall in our region is around 3 inches."

Forecasters believe light snow could reach the region around 10 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday and end before the late morning.
