Rescue Me: Indy The Dog Is A Sweet Senior Lady

Indy is one of the longest-tenured residents of the Prince William County Animal Shelter. This 9-year-old dog would love a home of her own.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Indy is a 9-year-old dog at the Prince William County Animal Shelter. As one of the shelter's longest-tenured residents, she is more than ready to find a forever home where she can spend her golden years.

Indy is an Akita, according to her PetFinder page. Despite her age, Indy loves long walks and has no problems keeping up for as long as you'd like.

Prince William Animal Advocates, a non-profit organization that supports the animal shelter and spreads the word about adoptable animals, wrote about Indy on their Facebook page. "It’s hard to believe that Indy is now the second longest doggie resident at the shelter," they wrote. "We truly thought she wouldn’t be around long as she just has the sweetest disposition."

Indy is a bit nervous and anxious in her current environment, the animal shelter said. She is also slightly overweight and would do well on a weight loss and exercise plan.

"We all agree she would make an excellent companion," the animal advocates wrote. "She is big and beautiful and even at 9 years old can hang in there for walks as far as we can take her. She sits nicely for treats and loves gentle pets on her back."

Still, Indy would not be a perfect fit for just any home. In the past, she did not do well in a home with small children. But in a low-key, adults-only household, Indy could thrive.
