Roaches, Flying Insects, No Handwashing: VA Restaurants Cited
VA health inspectors found eateries with violations like live roaches, flying insects, a mold-like substance, lack of handwashing and more.
Some food-handling or kitchen issues at a restaurant can be easy for patrons to spot: Weird smells, crawling insects or unclean employees are all red flags. But sometimes the problem is harder to pin down, such as food stored at improper temperatures, unclean kitchen equipment, or insufficient handwashing by staff.
Some recent restaurant inspections throughout Virginia noted problems that included: live roaches, flying insects, encrusted dirt, a mold-like substance, lack of handwashing before food prep, undated foods and more. One restaurant was even cited for 27 violations.
