Woodbridge November General Election Voter Guide: Candidates, How To Vote

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Sept. 20 marks the start of early voting for the Nov. 5, 2024 general election, which features federal races for Woodbridge and Prince William County voters to decide.

What's on the Ballot

All Prince William County voters will have president and vice president, member of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives 7th or 10th district on the ballot. Voters in the Towns of Dumfries, Haymarket and Quantico will also have local races on the ballot.

In the 7th congressional district, Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Fredericksburg) is not running again, as she announced a 2025 bid for Virginia governor. Democrat Eugene Vindman and Republican Derrick Anderson won their party's primaries and will face off in the general election.

The 7th district includes parts of Fredericksburg and counties of Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, Caroline, King George, Greene, Madison, and Albermarle and is considered competitive for elections, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Virginia Constitutional Amendment

Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended so that the tax exemption that is currently available to the surviving spouses of soldiers killed in action is also available to the surviving spouses of soldiers who died in the line of duty?

Voter Registration

The deadline for voter registration or updating your address is Oct. 15. Same-day registration will be offered from Oct. 16 through Election Day, Nov. 5. Residents may register, update their registration or check their registration status through the citizen portal at vote.elections.virginia.gov.

Voters can also fill out an application and return it by mail or in person at the Prince William County Office of Elections (9250 Lee Ave Suite 1, Manassas, VA 20110).

How to Vote Early

Voters may choose to vote early in person, request and submit a mail-in ballot or vote in person on Election Day.

Early in-person voting starts Friday, Sept. 20 at the Office of Elections, 9250 Lee Ave, Suite 1, Manassas, VA 20110. Satellite locations will open Sunday, Oct. 13 at A.J. Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Dr, Woodbridge, VA 22191; Brentsville Courthouse, 12229 Bristow Rd, Brentsville, VA 20136; DMV Woodbridge, 2731 Caton Hill Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22191; Dumfries Community Center, 17757 Main St, Dumfries, VA 22026; and Haymarket Gainesville Library, 14870 Lightner Rd, Haymarket, VA 20169. The last day to vote early will be Nov. 2.

Hours at all locations are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays (closing at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays). Saturday voting will be offered Oct. 19, 26 and Nov. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday voting will be offered Oct. 13 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person.

To vote by mail, the easiest way to apply for a ballot is online through the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal. Voters will need their Social Security number and a Virginia Driver's license or Virginia DMV-issued ID number. Voters may also return a completed application by mail, email, fax or in person to the Prince William County Office of Elections (9250 Lee Ave Suite 1, Manassas, VA 20110, phone 703-792-6470, email pwcvotes@pwcgov.org and fax 703-792-6461).

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot will be 5 p.m. on Oct. 25. Completed ballots must be returned to the election office by 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 or postmarked by Nov. 5 and received in the office by noon on Nov. 8.

Voters may return their completed ballot by mail or in person. Ballot drop boxes will be available at early voting sites during voting hours and all polling places on Nov. 5, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

How to Vote on Election Day

Election Day voting is available at a voter's assigned polling place. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5. An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person.

Voters may confirm their polling place through the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal. The Prince William County Office of Elections also has a map and list of Prince William County precincts.

After polls close at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, preliminary election results will be tallied on the Virginia Department of Elections website. Patch will provide coverage of key races in Northern Virginia.
