Smoke Detectors Alert Residents To Woodbridge House Fire, 2 Injured
Prince William County Fire and Rescue said smoke detectors helped residents escape a house fire.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — Two people were injured and eight people were displaced in a Sunday house fire in Woodbridge, according to Prince William County Fire and Rescue.
Around 8:46 a.m. Sunday, units responded to a house in the 2300 block of West Longview Drive. All residents had escaped from the house after smoke detectors alerted them to the fire. Two residents were taken to a medical facility for treatment. The injured adults were living in the basement.
The fire caused moderate damage to the home, and the county's building official determined the home was unsafe to occupy. Five adults and three children were displaced and are being helped by the Red Cross.

The fire marshal's office responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue said the fire demonstrated the value of keeping working smoke detectors in homes. The fire marshal's office encouraged residents to ensure their smoke detectors are working. Landlords are required to provide working smoke detectors.
