Woodbridge Man Anonymously Claims $1 Million Powerball Prize In Manassas

MANASSAS, VA — The winner of a runner-up prize in a recent Powerball drawing anonymously claimed the prize.

A Woodbridge man was the winner of a $1 million Powerball ticket in the Sept. 1 Powerball drawing. The ticket came from the Wawa at 8704 Sudley Road in Manassas.

Under Virginia law, the winner of a lottery prize worth $1 million or more can claim the prize without their identity being revealed to the public. The winner told Virginia Lottery officials he typically plays Powerball when the jackpot gets big.

The Wawa store that sold the $1 million ticket is getting a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.

There were two winners of the $1.787 billion jackpot from Texas and Missouri, according to NBC News. The jackpot was the second highest in Powerball history in the U.S.

The current Powerball jackpot is estimated to be $99 million, with a cash value of $46.3 million. Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The chances of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, and the odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
