Voters In Woodbridge, Senate District 33 Give Foy Victory: AP

WOODBRIDGE, VA — County supervisor, chairman, State Senate, and delegate races were too close to call on Tuesday night in Prince William County. Several local races were not called by the Associated Press or the Washington Post at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Voters are still awaiting results for races for Neabsco district supervisor, Prince William County Chairman, the House of Delegate's 19th district, and the Virginia Senate's 29th district.

A few local races did have winners predicted by the Associated Press and the Washington Post on Tuesday night.

Jennifer Carroll Foy won the Democratic nomination in the Virginia Senate's 33rd district, which includes Woodbridge, according to the Associated Press and unofficial election results. Foy defeated former delegate Hala Ayala in the primary.

All election results are unofficial until certified by the department of elections and other officials.

In the Potomac district, incumbent Supervisor Andrea Bailey defeated a challenge from Kim Short, the Washington Post said.

The remaining races in the Woodbridge area were still too close to call at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

County election officials still need to account for provisional ballots that were cast on Tuesday. According to the Virginia Department of Elections, local officials will meet on Wednesday and have 7 days to ratify any provisional ballot.

Incumbent Democrat Ann Wheeler faced a challenge from Deshundra Jefferson for the Democratic nomination for chairman of the board of supervisors.

According to unofficial results, Jefferson held a slim lead with 52 percent of votes. The Washington Post estimated that 98 percent of precincts had reported results.

Republicans Kenneth Knarr and Jeanine Lawson squared off for the Republican nomination for chairman of the county board. Lawson secured a victory on Tuesday, according to the Washington Post.

In the Neabsco district, which encompasses most of the Dale City area, incumbent supervisor Victor Angry is being challenged by Nate "Coach" Murphy for the district's Democratic nomination.

On Tuesday night, Angry held a lead of 104 votes, according to unofficial results.

In the neighboring Potomac District, incumbent supervisor Andrea Bailey faced a challenge from Kim Short.

Voters in the Woodbridge area also saw three different primaries for the Virginia Senate. The 29th state senate district had a Republican and a Democratic primary on Tuesday.

The Democratic race in the district features incumbent Jeremy McPike and Elizabeth Guzman, who currently serves on the House of Delegates.

At 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, McPike had a slight lead with 54 more votes than Guzman, unofficial results showed.

The Republican race in the 29th senate district is between Nikki Rattray Baldwin and Maria Martin.

On Tuesday night, Martin led by just ten votes, according to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections.

The House of Delegates' 19th district features a Democratic primary with three options, Rozia Henson, Makya Little, and Natalie Louise Shorter. That race was also too close to call on Tuesday night.

At 11 p.m., Henson held a slight lead with 39 percent of votes, unofficial results showed. Little and Shorter earned 37 percent and 24 percent of the counted ballots, according to the unofficial results.

The 33rd district of the Virginia Senate also has a Democratic primary between two former delegates, Jennifer Carroll Foy and Hala Ayala. Foy secured a victory on Tuesday night, the Associated Press declared.

Freedom High School in Woodbridge hosts two election precincts. There, voters and campaign volunteers spoke to Patch about the what issues were most important to them in local elections.

This year, their interests focused on funding schools, repealing the county's meal tax, and protecting a woman's right to choose whether or not to have an abortion.

Jaylen Curtis is a 19-year-old who is running for a seat on the Prince William County School Board in November. He told Patch he was excited to vote in his first primary election.

"Local elections go on to affect us every day," Curtis told Patch.
