Bellevue Plans Disaster Preparedness Forums at City Hall

The March 11 earthquake in Japan, the resulting tsunami and radiation from damaged nuclear plants, is a reminder of the devastation such a disaster can cause. For Bellevue residents, it can also be an opportunity to learn.

Bellevue’s Office of Emergency Management will present two forums on March 23 to discuss earthquake preparedness, reducing the risk from an earthquake, tsunami or nuclear power plant, and other topics.

The Japan Earthquake, Tsunami, and Nuclear Crisis Open Forums will take place from noon to 1:15 p.m., and again from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in the Council Chambers of , 450 110th Ave. N.E.

The forums are an opportunity to learn about local efforts in support of the Japanese people, what the situation in Japan means for Bellevue, and how to prepare your family or place of business to recover quickly from an earthquake in the Puget Sound region.

Parking at City Hall is limited and on a first-come-first-served basis; transportation options such as car pooling, busing, walking and biking are encouraged. Parking validation is available after the noon forum but is not required for the 7 p.m. event.
