Cedarcrest High School Student Wins Regional Science Competition at Bellevue College

Katy McClintic from Cedarcrest High School in Duvall was named the 2011 Central Sound Regional Science & Engineering Fair Grand Champion at the region-wide science fair held at Bellevue College on Saturday.

McClintic is the recipient of an all-expense paid trip to represent the Central Puget Sound region in the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in Los Angeles May 8-13.

The first runner up, Nivedita Jejurikar from Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bellevue, received a certificate and a TI-84 plus graphing calculator.

Participants included students from Cedarcrest High School, Forest Ridge of the Sacred Heart, Issaquah High School and several home-schooled participants, said Kate Souza,  program manager of Bellevue College's Science and Math Institute (SAMI) Science Division.

More than 100 visitors from the community stopped by to view the fair, including a bus of middle school students from Monroe. Jake Knoth of Cedarcrest High School  won the People’s Choice Award with his project, entitled “Self-Guided Robotics Platform."

The major sponsors for the 2011 CSRSEF were the Science and Math Institute at Bellevue College, the Microsoft Store, the Rotary Club of Redmond, DE Hokanson, Inc,; Bellevue College Association for Higher Education, Dan Williams, Gary Foss, and Adam Hirschkatz.
