• Company trying to open long-awaited oyster bar sues Pierce Co. city over sewer (thenewstribune.com) — Gig Harbor’s denial of additional sewer service for a Purdy waterfront property has prompted the company behind a long-planned oyster bar to sue the city in Pierce County Superior Court. After more than a decade of planning, the owners argue Gig Harbor’s sewer system can serve the site and that prior inclusion in the city’s Urban Growth Area gives them vested rights to needed infrastructure.
   

• Pierce County Library System announces updated hours with more weekend availability (kiro7.com) — Gig Harbor’s Pierce County Library branch will shift to longer, standardized hours starting January 18, opening 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday–Sunday. The countywide schedule changes aim to make visits easier for busy families and expand access to programs and services across Pierce County.
   

• Kentlake girls basketball off to best start since 2017 (kentreporter.com) — Kentlake’s girls basketball team is off to a 6-2 start, with one of those early tests coming against Gig Harbor in a competitive loss. Players and coaches say improved mindset, reduced turnovers, and emerging underclassmen are transforming a program opponents once overlooked into a tougher matchup heading into key games against White River and Decatur.
