Body Found In Burning Car, Deputies Investigating

The sheriff's department says an arson investigator has been called to check up on a car fire in Lakewood early Thursday.

LAKEWOOD, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a corpse was found in a burning car in Lakewood early Thursday morning.

According to deputies, Central Pierce Fire and Rescue was called to a car on fire just after 4:15 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 10400 block of Sales Road S.

When firefighters arrived, however, they found a parked car, ablaze and with a body in the driver's seat. Investigators say the car was not involved in any sort of collision prior to the fire, and are trying to figure out how the fire began.

No other injuries have been reported.

Deputies and an arson investigator have been called to check out the car fire. The Sheriff's Department says it is still working to identify the victim, and determine their cause of death.
