JBLM Announces Day & Nighttime Demolitions Training This Week

Anyone who lives near Joint Base Lewis-McChord can expect some more noise this week.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Residents of Lakewood who live near Joint Base Lewis-McChord will want to prepare for some extra noise this week, as Joint Base Lewis-McChord has announced it will be performing demolitions, artillery, and mortar training round the clock for the next couple of days.

Training began midday Wednesday, the base said, and will wrap up at midnight on Saturday.

During artillery training, JBLM Army units fire live munitions into a designated "artillery impact area" on JBLM's main campus.

As longtime residents are no doubt aware, those artillery shells can cause quite a bit of noise for the surrounding area.

More on the training and the potential noise can be found on JBLM's website. Neighbors who think their property has been damaged by JBLM training events can also call 253-477-1878 or 253-477-1877 to file a claim.
