Pierce County Invites Community To Apply For Watershed Grants

Got a plan to help the local environment? The Pierce County Watersheds Small Grants Program may be able to help make it happen.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Pierce County is putting out a call for anyone who wants to help preserve and beautify their local environment.

The Pierce County Watersheds Small Grants Program is offering funding to local programs that raise environmental literacy or improve habitat and water quality within the county. This year, the program is set to award a total of $70,000 to projects spread across four watersheds, shown below.

Efforts to benefit any of the four watersheds are eligible to receive up to $2,500 through the program. To get involved, interested parties are invited to attend a virtual information session at 2 p.m. on March 2. You can sign up to attend online. After that, grant applications will be due by April 7.

Previous efforts supported by this funding include a training program on scientific data collection, an outdoor lab facility that gave students hands-on experience with habitat restoration, and a community cleanup of the Puyallup-White River Watershed.

Puyallup River Watershed Small Grants

A grant for nonprofits, schools, businesses or individuals that want to enhance the water quality and habitat of the Puyallup-White River Watershed.

Chambers-Clover Creek Watershed Environmental Grants

A grant for nonprofits, schools, jurisdictions or individuals who want to work collaboratively with the Chambers-Clover Creek Watershed Council to solve issues with drainage, water quality and habitat protection.

Lu Winsor Memorial Environmental Grants

A grant for nonprofits, schools and individuals supporting environmental education and watershed protection projects in the Key Peninsula-Gig Harbor-Islands Watershed.

Nisqually Watershed Small Grants

Finally, this grant is for nonprofits, businesses, schools and individuals who want to enhance water quality and protect habitats in the Nisqually River Watershed in southern Pierce County.
