Armed Carjacking In Spanaway: Neighbors Ordered To Stay Indoors
Residents of Spanaway who live near the Walmart were asked to stay indoors Tuesday afternoon while K9 units searched the area for suspects.
SPANAWAY, WA β An armed carjacking in the Spanaway area had police briefly urging neighbors to shelter in their homes Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the incident started shortly before 4 p.m., when a group of three suspects stole a car at gunpoint in the Spanaway Walmart's parking lot. The vehicle crashed shortly afterwards, and officers are still actively searching the area for the suspects.

Investigators say they believe there are three suspects, all of whom wore dark clothing and ski masks. The group has reportedly opened fire on three or four people in the area shortly after the crash, and residents living anywhere inside the map below were asked to remain indoors for about an hour.

About an hour later, deputies lifted the shelter-in-place order and called off K9 units, but the suspects had not been located. Several roads in the area remained closed through the evening as the investigation continued.

No injuries have been reported.
