Patch Editor Heads to India and Nepal

Elephants, camels, curry and lots of shopping await me on the other side of the world.

Everyone needs to get shook up sometimes, and the best place for that is India.

It's bright, loud, smelly, dirty and life-changing. I spent a month in Mumbai in the summer of 2008 and the best thing I brought home was a deep sense of gratitude. I am grateful every single day for the simple things--open space, clean bathrooms, grocery stores, cars... and the list goes on.

By far the most amazing thing I found in India was, no matter how poor someone may be, they have a sense of happiness and contentment about them. It makes you think a lot about the minor frustrationsΒ of this American life and the stresses that aren't all that bad, in the scheme of things.Β

But to be honest-- the food in itself is enough reason to go back.

This time, I am traveling with friends to New Delhi then Kathmandu in Nepal. We'll head back to India and experience Holi, ride elephants in Jaipur, visit the Taj Mahal and see the river Ganges in Varanasi.
