A 38-year-old Midland man was killed early Tuesday when two home invaders broke into his apartment and opened fire.

MIDLAND, WA β Two suspects are on the loose after a home invasion that claimed the life of a Pierce County man early Thursday morning.
The investigation began just after 12:30 a.m., when 911 dispatchers received a call from a woman, who told them that two men had broken into her apartment and shot her son. Pierce County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived on scene shortly afterwards, and found a 38-year-old man who had been shot. They tried to staunch the bleeding, but the man died shortly afterwards, the Sheriff's Department said.
The man's mother and his infant son were both inside the apartment at the time of the home invasion.
