A vicious domestic violence assault, a thief who really sucks, and an inmate who tried to flood his jail cell in a really dumb way.

PUYALLUP, WA - A vicious domestic violence assault, a thief who really sucks, and an inmate who thought he could flood his jail cell by repeatedly emptying a cup of water onto the floor highlight this iteration of the ever-popular Puyallup police blotter, covering incidents from Jan. 25 to 30.
Vehicle Prowls/Damage Property- Multiple Cases
2000-block of Manorwood Dr.
Police stopped and spoke with a man who was spotted circling through the neighborhood late at night. With no cause to enact an arrest at the time, the man was sent along his way. In the morning officers found one vehicle with a busted out window. Now investigators believe the man who was stopped was also responsible for the car prowl and possibly two other similar cases.

200-block of 15th Avenue Southwest
Firefighters tended to a dumpster fire south of Motel Puyallup.

ID Theft/Fraud
700-block of Seventh Street Southwest
A woman reported her credit card was used in multiple fraudulent charges totaling roughly $1,000. Six of the charges were made at the Puyallup Fred Meyer.

3717-B S. Meridian - Quality Sewing & Vacuum
Video surveillance captured a man in the act of stealing a Dyson vacuum from Quality Sewing & Vacuum. See the Facebook post below:

303 35th Ave. SE - The Home Depot
A 48-year-old man who was previously trespassed from The Home Depot in Puyallup for shoplifting was caught in the business' parking lot. He received a citation for his noncompliance.
Burglary, DWLS, Warrants
1400-block of North Meridian
A 41-year-old man saw justice swing in an unexpected way when he called police to report someone had burglarized his storage unit and stole two fishing poles only to end up arrested himself because he had five warrants and a suspended license.

Police are investigating several storage unit burglary reports from this location.

100-block of East Meeker
A traffic stop for "lane travel" ended in an arrest when the officer involved found his quarry well over the legal limit for operating a vehicle. Additionally, the drunk driver had a suspended license.

2923 S. Meridian - Meridian Firs Apartments
A woman reported receiving multiple unwanted texts from her ex-boyfriend, who already had a court-imposed No Contact order in place. Police found the man at his parents house and arrested him.
Residential Burglary
3000-block of Highlands Boulevard
Someone burglarized the victim's home in the middle of the afternoon, taking jewelry and other items.

3500 S. Meridian - Victoriaβs Secret
A pair of women were stopped after they were caught stealing merchandise from Victoria's Secret and using a magnet to disrupt security devices. While speaking with the women, officers saw they had stolen merchandise from other stores throughout the mall. The women were arrested and taken to Pierce County Jail.

2000-block 27th Street Southwest
A would-be burglar fled empty-handed after setting off an audible home security siren. The homeowner was present when the alarm went off.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested after refusing to leave an area from which she'd already been trespassed.
Theft
Northwest Motor Inn - 1409 S. Meridian
A woman renting a room at the Northwest Motor Inn reportedly let a friend stay with her overnight. The woman's friend was gone in the morning, along with her purse and a safe, which contained cash, watches, and other items. Police determined the "friend" was the only suspect and located video that showed her leaving the motel in her boyfriend's white Chevrolet S10, which is recognizable by its broken out rear window.

Officers arrested a man they caught driving around with expired registration after learning the man also had a Pierce County warrant for a fourth-degree domestic violence assault. The man was handed over to Pierce County deputies.

2923 S Meridian - Meridian Firs Apartments
Police were called to handle a verbal altercation between a mother and her son. The son, police learned, had a court-imposed No Contact order in place that protected his mother. The son was arrested.

An angry boyfriend, reportedly jealous that his girlfriend had a friend over, spilled wine on his girlfriend before striking her with the wine glass and hurling a wine bottle into a wall. The boyfriend fled in a car before police arrived, and the girlfriend was unable to provide a positive location. Police issued a citation.

4301 S Meridian - The Rock Wood Fired Pizza
A woman who left her purse in plain view on her car seat called police to report someone had smashed out her car's rear window and stole the purse.
Warrant Arrest / Making False Statements
2000-block East Pioneer
An alarm drew officers to a home with an open garage that looked to have been accessed forcibly. A K9 searched but found no suspects inside. A nearby resident told officers he saw a man running down a driveway toward East Pioneer not long before. On East Pioneer officers located what appeared to be an abandoned truck, so one officer waited behind to see who might show up.
Eventually two men showed up, one of whom matched the description given earlier by the resident. When contacted by the officer, the suspect initially gave a false name. However, an assisting officer from Milton used his mobile finger-printing device to positively ID the suspect and confirm he also had a warrant in Puyallup. He was summarily arrested.

Someone graffitied the letters S-K-E on the side of a building in the area.

511 10th Ave. SE - Life Care Center
Someone stole a 75-year-old man's watch and wedding while taking him to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Fraud
300-block Second Street Northeast
A man in his late 20s tried to buy food with two counterfeit $20 bills. Recognizing the bills were fake, the business' manager refused to honor the purchase. The man then fled in a Chrysler van.
Hit and Run and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
Seventh Street Northwest and River Road
A 30-year-old woman suspected of a hit and run rear-end collision was tracked to her mother's residence. Upon her arrest officers found heroin on her person.
Physical Control β Alcohol
204 Valley Ave. NE - Chevron
Officers contacted a man in the Chevron parking lot after receiving reports of a possible drunk driver in the area. The man performed his sobriety tests poorly and provided a BAC sample over the legal limit. He was arrested.
Assault 3rd degree
Puyallup Jail
An inmate at the Puyallup Jail tried to flood his own cell by repeatedly filling a cup with water and splashing it around. Jail staff tried to take the cup and clean the cell, but the inmate wasn't having it and instead started throwing water at the jail staff. In the process, the inmate hit one of the jail officers in the face. He was then taken to Pierce County Jail on new charges.

ACE Hardware - 517 S. Meridian
An unruly 27-year-old man was stopped for stealing an ACE Hardware shopping cart. While speaking with the uncooperative man officers learned he had a felony warrant, so he was arrested.

400-block Fourth Street Northwest
A 36-year-old woman who'd been drinking all day started slapping her boyfriend repeatedly after he told her not to touch some electrical wires. The woman fled in a vehicle before police arrived. Officers forwarded the report to detectives for followup.

303 35th Ave. SE - The Home Depot
A 25-year-old man was suspected of stealing saw blades from The Home Depot.
According to police, "He attempted to play 'Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire' to conceal a warrant. However, regular readers of the Blotter should know by now that officers are pretty good at 'Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire,' and we rarely lose. As such, it should be no surprise that we figured out his name and booked him on the appropriate charges."

Two men who were contacted for fighting with a woman were ultimately arrested after officers learned both men had warrants. One of the men, prior to his arrest, tried to flee on foot, but he was located nearby in a stairwell.

2804 E. Main Ave. - Linden Lane Apartments
A married couple's argument turned physical when the husband grabbed his wife's head and pushed it several times into the driver's side window of the car where they were sitting. After getting out of the vehicle, the husband threw a cell phone at his wife so hard it chipped her tooth. Officers later contacted the husband by phone and convinced him to surrender to officers in Fife. He is now booked at Pierce County jail.
Theft 3rd degree (Shoplift)
3500 S. Meridian - Macy's
A man who Macy's Loss Prevention believed was planning to shoplift became agitated when Macy's staff confronted him. He ended up walking out of the store with about $800 worth of merchandise before getting into a car and leaving the area. Macy's staff got the car's license plate and positively identified the vehicle's registered owner as the shoplifter from a photo array provided by police. Pierce County Jail will reportedly serve the citation.
