Puyallup Blotter: Zales Jewelry Thief Strikes Again, iPhone Thief Arrested Outside Spring Fair

APRIL 18, 2013

Accidental Shooting: A man driving home from Sportco in Fife decided to pull over on the SR 167 highway near Sumner to check out his new purchase, a loaded gun. He tried ejecting a round and shot himself in the leg.

APRIL 20, 2013

DUI: A 26 year-old woman was stopped outside the Shell Station on Valley Ave. NE for driving a heavily-damaged car with three missing tires. She was a confirmed suspect in two hit-and-run incidents earlier in the day and was arrested for DUI.Β 

APRIL 21, 2013

Cell Phone Theft: A man stole a pink iPhone left on a table in the Showplex Center during the Puyallup Spring Fair. He made it out the gate with it before he was detained. He said he was going to turn the phone in to Lost and Found but several officers were able to refute his story.Β

APRIL 22, 2013

DUI: A female driver was stopped for exiting SR 512 and cutting the lane short, nearly striking a Puyallup officer head-on. She accelerated to over 65 mph before she was stopped. She admitted to drinking at a friend’s house and had sustained fresh damage to her car, although a victim has not been located. She was found to almost three times the legal drinking limit.

Jewelry Theft: A man stole a ring from Zales Jewelry in the South Hill Mall, valued at over $2,000. His description is similar to other similar jewelry thefts in the mall recently. He is described as a white male, between 20 and 25 years old, 5 foot 10 inches tall with brown hair and bad acne.Β 

Theft: A man and woman stole almost $500 in merchandise from Sears and fled in a stolen Nissan Pathfinder. The man is described as white, between 25 and 30 years old, thin and about 5 foot 11 inches tall. The woman is described as between 18-25 years old, 5 foot 6 inches with brown hair.Β 

Residential Burglary: A homeowner on Shaw Road was napping on his couch when he heard several loud bangs in the back of his house. He walked into the laundry room and saw an unknown person standing there. The suspect fled by jumping into the passenger side of a red Chevy pickup parked outside.

Accidental Discharge: A man was cleaning his gun in an apartment on 9th St. SW and apparently forgot it was loaded, discharging a round into a common wall with the neighboring apartment. There was no one in the apartment so officers entered and found the round was lodged in an air mattress in the closet.

APRIL 23, 2013

Shoplifting, Assault: A 24 year-old was contacted outside a store on 31st Ave. SE for attempting to steal over $850 in electronics. He fought with Loss Prevention and his girlfriend assaulted the employee while he was taken into custody. Both were booked into jail.

Criminal Trespass: A woman was transported to the hospital for mental health issues after she punched an employee at the McDonald’s on S. Meridian. She was trespassed but refused to leave; the employee was uninjured and declined to press charges.

Malicious Mischief: A resident on West Meeker was angry with her apartment manager for not fixing a leaky ceiling, so she smashed out the rear window of the woman’s car. She was arrested.

APRIL 24, 2013

Shoplifting: A $4,000 diamond tennis bracelet was stolen from Zales inside the South Hill Mall. He is thought to be the same suspect as prior jewelry store thefts.

Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Gang Member: An officer viewed a suspicious subject β€œdecked out in gang attire” wandering aimlessly around parked cars at the South Hill Mall. The 17 year-old from Tacoma proudly admitted he was a member of the β€œSouth Side Psychos,” and a butterfly knife was found in his pocket.

Minor Intoxicated in Public Place: A 19-year-old girl was found in the wooded area behind Bradley Lake Park and was extremely intoxicated and uncooperative. She was transported to the hospital.
