Puyallup Police Investigate Hit and Run Accident that Left Teen Girl Severely Injured

A 16-year-old Pierce County girl was transported to the hospital for serious injuries after she was hit by a car on West Stewart Ave. on Thursday night. The driver did not stop; Puyallup Police ask those with information to come forward.

Puyallup Police are investigating a hit and run collision on March 14, 2013 that left a 16-year-old Pierce County girl severely injured, according to a department press release.

The teen was down in the 600 block of West Stewart Ave. on the south side of the street within the eastbound lane of travel. The collision occured just before 7:30 p.m. She had significant injuries and wasΒ immediately transported byΒ Central Pierce Fire and Rescue to the hospital for treatment of thoseΒ injuries.

It appeared as though the victim had been hit by a vehicle,Β although there were no immediate witnesses to the collision.

Investigators with theΒ Puyallup Police Department Major Collision Response Team (MCRT) determined thatΒ the 16-year old had been inside the Golden Rule Grocery in the 600 block ofΒ West Stewart Avenue NW, exited the store and walked to the markedΒ crosswalk at the intersection of 7th Street NW and West Stewart AvenueΒ NW. The 16-year old crossed West Stewart Avenue NW in a markedΒ crosswalk where she was hit.

The video surveillance footage attached to this article is from the grocery store and appears to show a white, large sport utility vehicle, possibly a General Motors product, fleeingΒ the scene eastbound on West Stewart Avenue. The vehicle was possiblyΒ similar to a Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe. The suspect vehicle in thisΒ case likely has damage to the right front of the vehicle as well as aΒ possible dent on the hood of the vehicle.

The 16-year old female remains at the hospital for treatment of her injuriesΒ and is expected to survive.
