Puyallup Railroad Crossing Rehabilitation Project Makes Downtown a Little Smoother

From the City of Puyallup:
Since April 2013, the City of Puyallup and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) have been working toΒ redesign and rehabilitate railroad crossings across the city.
As of June 1, two crossings have been successfully restored and four crossings are scheduled for repair in the coming months. This project is part of the cityβs overall effort to keep Puyallupβs infrastructure updated and well maintained.
Puyallup used a fast-paced survey, design, and bid process while coordinating efforts with BNSF to complete each restoration. The goal of the rehabilitation is to replace the failing asphalt pavement, resurface the railroad bed and provide a more durable crossing surface. The old asphalt approaches are replaced by a specialized concrete which creates a ridged surface that is less prone to damage and more conducive to future railroad maintenance.
