PUYALLUP, WA β Officers enlisted the help of K9 units to track and find runaway criminals while numerous people suspected of crimes attempted to get out of trouble by uselessly lying about their identities in this iteration of the ever-popular Puyallup Police Department crime log, covering select incidents between April 19 and 23.
Making False Statements to Law Enforcement
1400 S. Meridian
A 23-year-old woman who was stopped in the middle of South Meridian reportedly lied about her name in an effort to conceal a felony warrant. She was arrested.

Mental Health
700-block of Second Street Northwest
A male was assaulting staff and having a mental breakdown. He was involuntarily committed.
Residential Burglary
3600-block of 21st Street Southeast

Responding to a residential alarm, Puyallup officers found a door kicked in but no intruders. The house was cleared and secured.
Burglary
500-block of North Meridian
Sometime overnight someone entered the fenced area of the business and stole a convertible top off a Mazda Miata.
Burglary
1400-block of North Meridian
Someone broke into the victimβs storage unit. Unknown what was taken. The suspect left behind items that were booked into property for possible prints.
Runaway
2400-block of Chateau Drive
A runaway who left home on April 16 is thought to be in the Burien area with friends. The young girl was entered as a missing person.
Runaway Recovery/CPS Placement
701 43rd Ave. SE - Glenbrooke Apartments
A runaway was recovered at the complex, but his mother refused to take him home due to safety concerns. CPS was contacted and took custody of the child.
Robbery
3500 S. Meridian - Macy's
Two women turned a shoplifting incident into a strong-arm robbery when they allegedly assaulted a Macy's Loss Prevention agent on their way out the store. As they fled, the women were spotted diving into some bushes near the Toys 'R' Us.
After setting up a perimeter, a Pierce County Sheriff's Department K9 unit was brought in to help with the search. The women, however, volunteered to surrender before the K9 was released.
All the stolen property from Macy's as well as a few other stores was reportedly recovered, and both women were taken to Pierce County Jail.
DWLS/Warrant
3700 S. Meridian
An officer pulled a male driver over for expired registration and found that the driver was DWLS with two Pierce County DV warrants. He was arrested and booked.
DUI
800 W. Stewart Ave.
A woman who was pulled over for expired registration and unspecified equipment violations was found to be nearly double the legal limit for driving intoxicated. She reportedly provided BAC samples of .147. Additionally, the woman had a previous DUI conviction.
She was arrested.
Recovery (runaway)
2400-block of Chateau Drive
The runaway from this location returned home. She was removed from the system.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
700 Fourth St. NW
A 31-year-old male was contacted in his parked vehicle. He was in possession of Heroin and Methamphetamine. He was booked.
DWLS 3rd/UPDP Arrest
1800 River Rd
Police arrested a 31-year-old man who was not only driving with a suspended license but also had a warrant from another agency. Following the man's arrest, police found drug paraphernalia on his person and in the car.
WSP Agency Assist/K-9 Capture
Westbound SR-512/31st Avenue Southwest
Police say a 47-year-old man was spotted strangling his girlfriend while they sat in their parked car along the shoulder of SR-512. When police arrived, the man fled on foot toward 31st Avenue Southwest.
After setting a perimeter, K9 officer Maverick tracked the man and found him hiding under a large fallen tree in a vacant lot near the intersection of 30th Avenue and Fifth Street southwest.
After his arrest, the man was turned over to Washington State Patrol.
D.V. Assault 4th
2523 S. Meridian - Hamptons Apartments
A 58-year-old male assaulted his girlfriend twice by pushing her down resulting in minor injuries. He was unable to be contacted and a summons was issued.
Commercial Burglary Attempt
1400-block of East Main Avenue
At 4:26am Puyallup PD responded to a commercial alarm. The business owner called and advised he was observing a skinny male suspect wearing a yellow construction jacket with reflective strips at the business. PPD converged the area but were unable to locate the suspect at that time.
The suspect attempted to pry open two metal garage doors unsuccessfully causing over $1k in damages. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was determined the suspect arrived in a silver early 2000 Chevrolet Impala that had the rear license plate covered with a towel hanging from the trunk.
In the video the suspect was observed wearing black pants and had a dark mask covering his face with the hood of the jacket up over his head.

Commercial Burglary Attempt X2/Mal Mischief 2nd/DWLS 3rd Arrest
300-block of River Road
At 5:18am PPD responded to a commercial alarm. An officer arrived shortly after and a witness advised he observed a silver passenger vehicle leaving from Verizon WB on River RD and then NB on 4Th St Pl NW.
A short time later the officer located the vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle from above pulling out of Value Village onto WB River RD. A high-risk stop was performed, and the driver was identified and detained without incident. No damage was found at the business, but the witness confirmed he observed the subject walking from the area of front doors after the alarm went off.
The witness observed the clothing of the subject and it matched what the suspect was wearing at the time of the stop. The suspectβs physicals also matched the suspect in the surveillance footage from the previous attempted commercial burglary.
The suspect was transported to Pierce County Jail where he was booked. His vehicle was impounded for a search warrant.
Agency Assist Structure Fire
400-block of Corwin Road Southwest
The detached garage caught fire and became fully engulfed. The flames partially spread to the main house but were put out by Central Pierce Fire before extensive damage was done to the house. The fire mostly likely started from a chicken coop heat lamp. Thankfully, no injuries. According to the owner it is the oldest house in Puyallup.
Vehicle Prowl / Fraud
2923 S. Meridian - Meridian Firs Apartments
Credit and debit cards stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the area were reportedly used at a 7-Eleven and Walmart. An iPhone was also stolen.
Burglary
1100 N. Meridian - Fred Meyer
A 52-year-old male stole about $200 in merchandise from Fred Meyer. He had been previously trespassed. The officer did an extensive area check and located the vehicle that the suspect fled in on River Rd at the 66th Bridge. He was booked into Pierce County Jail.
MVTR
1500-block of Park Avenue
A white 1993 Honda Accord with two stickers on the rear window β depicting a yeti and mermaid, respectively β was stolen sometime around 10 p.m.
Theft
1300-block of West Stewart Avenue
A male in his 20s stole two metal lanterns from the victimβs porch. He fled in a tan Toyota Corolla.
Trespass
121 E. Stewart Ave. - 7-Eleven
Officers dealt with an intoxicated male multiple times throughout the shift. Eventually he was found at this business where he had been previously trespassed. He was cited and released due to limited jail space.
Theft
900-block of East Main Avenue
A suspect cut a catalytic converter from a truck on 4/22/19 at 1:11am. Report to ISU.
Forgery/PSP/Theft/DWLS/Warrant/False Statement/UPCS
3700-block of Fifth Street Southeast
A vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. The female passenger was found to have just purchased over $700 worth of items from Loweβs with a stolen check. She lied about her name to conceal a felony warrant. She was also found to have methamphetamine on her person.
The male driver was found to be DWLS and had a stolen check on his person.
Both were arrested and booked.
Runaway
701 43rd Ave. SE - Glenbrooke Apartments
Chronic runaway was entered as a missing person. He was last seen with unknown friends near the apartments.
Trespass/Disorderly Conduct
100 River Rd.
A male was called in several times as he was walking around openly drinking whiskey and acting strangely. He returned to Fred Meyer, where he had been trespassed from earlier in the day, before walking over to Korum Ford where he began trying to fight employees. He was not compliant, but was eventually taken into custody and booked.
Warrant
1100 N. Meridian - Fred Meyer
An officer made a proactive contact with a suspicious vehicle and ultimately arrested a male for felony Escape and Assault 2 warrants. He was booked.
