Homicide Suspect Arrested At Canadian Border: Sheriff's Dept.
Jordan Eaton is accused of shooting Cassandra Scaff in South Hill Monday morning. He was reportedly caught trying to enter Canada illegally.
PUYALLUP, WA - A homicide suspect accused of shooting to death his 19-year-old girlfriend in the South Hill area Monday morning was captured later that afternoon attempting to enter Canada illegally, according to Pierce County Sheriff's officials. The suspect, Jordan Eaton, was located at a hospital by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Surrey, British Columbia.
Eaton, 26, allegedly shot his girlfriend, Cassandra Carolyn Scaff, around 4 a.m. Jan. 28 at a home along 71st Avenue East in Puyallup. After the shooting, Eaton allegedly stole a white 2006 GMC Savanna with "Liberty Distribution" logos and a refrigeration unit on top, sheriff's officials said on Twitter. Eaton was last seen leaving the Crosslands Motel on North Meridian in Puyallup.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, Pierce County Sheriff's officials announced on Twitter that Eaton was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. The gun thought to have been used in the shooting was also recovered, officials said.

Whatcom County deputies recovered the van Eaton allegedly stole about one mile from the Canadian border in Blaine, Washington.
Court documents from Pierce County obtained by Patch show Cassandra's murder wasn't the first time Eaton had a run-in with the law. On Jan. 8, a complaint was filed accusing Eaton of second-degree malicious mischief for an incident in 2018 involving Cassandra's mother, Melissa Scaff.

A Probable Cause affidavit states Eaton allegedly used a baseball bat to smash out every window of Melissa's vehicle during an argument on May 10, 2018. Damages were estimated to cost around $1,500.
It's unclear why the incident in May 2018 wasn't filed until January 2019, just weeks before Eaton allegedly shot Cassandra.
On Monday, Cassandra's family and friends created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her memorial service. In less than one day 20 people have helped raise $1,425 of the campaign's $5,000 goal.
