WSP Seeks Witnesses To Deadly Spanaway Hit-And-Run

Troopers are hoping someone saw a car that hit a man who had been crossing State Route 7 early Thursday morning.

SPANAWAY, WA β€” Washington State Patrol troopers are asking the public for help tracking down a hit-and-run driver who ran over an injured man earlier this week.

According to WSP's bulletin, just before 1 a.m. Thursday, a man had been crossing State Route 7 at Field Road E in Spanaway.

But as the man crossed, he was struck by a driver in a 2006 Saturn Ion in the southbound lanes. That driver stopped to call for help, but just moments later a second vehicle plowed over the injured pedestrian and continued south along SR-7.

The victim, a 22-year-old Tacoma man, was later pronounced dead at the scene, KING 5 reported.

Detectives say they don't know the make or model of the hit-and-run vehicle, but based on the impact, it likely took some lower front end damage in the hit.

WSP is hoping someone may be able to catch the missing vehicle, but they're also looking for witnesses to the crash itself: at least one other vehicle was present at the crime scene, but didn't stick around to give a police statement.

Anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to call WSP's Det. Brooke Bova at 360-701-8284 or by emailing Brooke.Bova@wsp.wa.gov.
