3-Alarm Fire Guts Fairwood Apartment Building
Renton fire crews worked through hot weather Wednesday evening to contain a large fire that left the building uninhabitable.

RENTON, WA — Firefighters from several agencies joined forces Wednesday to combat a large fire at a Fairwood apartment complex, which left people living in 12 units without a home. Crews shared videos and images from the scene shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, showing active flames and heavy smoke pouring from the building near Southeast Petrovitsky Road and 140th Avenue Southeast.
Fire officials said crews were rotating through the response due to hot weather and the Renton Regional Fire Authority worked with Puget Sound Fire and Skyway Fire to tamp down the flames. Firefighters had the fire largely under control by 8:30 p.m., and the Red Cross was on the scene working to help the residents in need of a place to stay.
Some fire crews returned to the scene early Thursday to extinguish hot spots that had reignited. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
